Korean

Two or three weeks ago, Michiko, my daughter-in-law, cooked a Korean meal for a small group of friends, and I counted myself honoured to be one of them. Michiko is Japanese, and a chef.

Invercargill

I often stay in this house if I am in Invercargill.
In its history it was once a b & b, and before that a farm house.

Here is a photo of the library.

Ulva Island
While on Stewart Island last week I visited Ulva Island. It’s quite large and very forested but what is really unique about it is that all the rats, possums, and various other vermin have been eliminated. Now there are kiwi, kaka, kakariki, tui, pipi, miromiro, riroriro, piwakawaka.

Torea

I’ve just been on Stewart Island for four nights. Here is one of the photos that I took. I like the way that the black of this Oyster Catcher is like a hole in the light.

Book Signing
Last Friday I was in Auckland to, amongst other things, to sign a special limited edition of my book. 100 hard backed numbered copies have been made. The book is being released on September 10. Copies are available from Parson Bookshop in Auckland.

Queenstown
Here is a view taken from Queenstown airport terminal, and below, a
view of Queenstown itself.

Te Anau

A view from Te Anau, Southland, that I took last year.

Late Winter
Here is a view from the banks of the Clutha, just below where I live. These branches are still bare but very soon they will be full of life.

Sticking to the Ribs

I am nearly halfway through my 12 months here in Alexandra and am asking myself what photographs have I made in that time. Photographs that stick to the ribs I mean. Keepers.

Every day, all the time in fact, day or night, weekends too, I’m thinking about my work. I can’t seem to help it, the pressure seems irresistible. I do think that it can take its toll on those who are close though, I’ve always been sorry about that.

When I keep returning to an image that I have, that is a good sign. The snapper fillet that I photographed was taken a few months ago in my New Plymouth house and studio, when I had to make a visit there and it is one of those. The print is a large one, human sized and is pinned up there. This photo resonates within me in a deeply sad way, I find.

Cover Story

I have a book being published on September 10th. Here is the photo chosen for the cover.
It was a toy that I bought at a $2 shop.
